This is a certificate of competency for those candidates who wish to train to become an active crew member on a power or sailing yacht.
This is a premium course: max 3 students onboard
The International Crew course is a sailing training program designed to provide beginners with the basic skills and knowledge needed to be a competent member of a sailing crew.
This course covers fundamental sailing skills and introduces participants to the essentials of crewing on a sailboat. Some of the topics covered in the course may include:
Basic Seamanship: Understanding the parts of a boat, nautical terms, and basic boat handling.
Sail Handling: Learning how to hoist, reef, and lower sails. Understanding the principles of sail trim.
Ropework: Essential knots and rope handling skills.
Helmsmanship: Steering the boat under power and sail.
Safety Procedures: Basic safety on board, including man overboard drills, use of safety equipment, and emergency procedures.
Navigation: Basic navigation skills, including understanding charts, plotting courses, and using basic navigational instruments.
Personal Responsibilities: Understanding roles and responsibilities on board, including watch-keeping and teamwork.
The goal of the Competent Crew course is to give participants a solid foundation in sailing so that they can contribute effectively as crew members on a sailing yacht. It's often a prerequisite for more advanced sailing courses, such as Bareboat Skipper/Day Skipper courses, which focus on developing the skills needed to take on a leadership role in sailing.
It is the level of competence required when acting as an active crew member or watch keeper on a vessel in protected waters, daylight hours and in moderate weather.
