What to bring on your IYT course

Your bag

Your bag during an IYT course varies by the kind of sailing we´ll do, where we are sailing, but here we try and give those uncertain what to bring some guidelines on useful items to have with you during a sailing holiday with Algarve Cruising Center.

!Check the weather forecast (temperature / rain)! Adjust your clothes to the weather forecast.

Summer time temperatures around 30ºC and winter 12ºC.

IMPORTANT! Packing List – all items must fit in one (1) soft bag.

You will need:

  • Wallet
  • Passport

What you should bring

  • Swimsuit
  • Towel
  • Shoes for boating – non marking sole
  • Books/magazines or a Kindle/iPad
  • Lightweight long-sleeve shirt
  • Clothes for daytime (quick-dry preferable)
  • One set of warm clothes for evening watches – Mile Building Gibraltar
  • Hat or Visor to keep the sun off your face
  • Medications you take (you MUST tell us health issues)
  • Sunglasses
  • Personal toiletries
  • Lightweight rain jacket or foul-weather jacket
  • Optional stuff

For Mile Building programs

  • Red torch – for night sailing
  • Good offshore gear – contact us to rent sailing gear.

For IYT sailing courses

  • Red torch – for night sailing
  • Your navigation set
  • Print the notebook and bring it with you

What not to bring – we provide this onboard

  • Pillow
  • Sleeping bag

Helpful tips reminders

Pack one pair of deck shoes and one pair of flipflops – you won’t need anything more!
Long underwear & lightweight foulie pants work better than cotton pants or jeans if it’s chilly.
