UBER – cost around 10 euros
Taxi – around 20 euros
Transfers company – between 8-14 euros

Accommodation

If you arrive earlier than the boarding date or just want to leave some days after, we will be more thank happy to find you where to stay. Faro and Olhão have plenty of hotels, hostels and other budget accommodation, just email us the dates and your expectations.

If you are doing a Powerboat course you want to be close to the city center – Faro Marina. If you are doing a sailing course or a sailing expedition you want to be close to Olhão Marina. Although you can stay in Faro even if you are starting your course in Olhão. A taxi from Faro to Olhão takes 15 minutes.

Furthermore I was extremely pleased to see the theoretical part of the course to focus namelly on safety, equipment, preparedness, technology and ultimately urgency response. This is another side that the instruction took great length to present in a way where the students understand how their actions support their and other seafarers safety.

Who may receive an ICC based on the resolution 40?

In accordance with UNECE Resolution 40 (Revision 4), citizens and residents of countries (listed below), that are signatories to Resolution 40, will be obliged to obtain an ICC from their own national issuing authority and not from IYT (with the exception of the United Kingdom and Latvia, see below). The only exception for IYT to issue ICCs to citizens of these countries, is if the applicant can provide proof of residency* in a country not on this list. For example: an Austrian National living in Spain or Greece that can provide “proof of residency” in Spain or Greece would be allowed to receive an ICC from IYT.

*Proof of residency (examples) Utility bill (electric or gas), Property tax bill, Telephone bill, Insurance bill, IYT can issue ICCs to any other country’s citizens that are not listed below.

As of May 2016 the following countries have adopted resolution 40.

E-learning boat courses

Algarve Cruising Center offers e-Learning boat courses to support your IYT Powerboat certification.

These interactive courses are self-paced and divided into 3×3 hours sessions. After successfully completing a course, you will be doing a presencial exam.

In the end of this module there are two more days in the water.

Ive got my Bareboat Skipper license and now?!

Either I buy a yacht or I invite myself sailing on a friends yacht or I do another IYT yachting course.

At Algarve Cruising Center we offer mile-building with experienced instructors that will slowly move away from teaching and into coaching, helping you to learn and build experience the best way possible, by making your own mistakes!

Our Sailing Expeditions trips are scattered throughout the year and include sailing expeditions to Marroco, Cadiz, Guadiana River and Balearics. From short passages up to longer ocean passages in the North Atlantic in our Mile Building events.

After you’ve learnt what you need to know and practiced it for real, you might want to improve your sailing skills and learn black and white photography.

At Algarve Cruising Center we see our role as wide ranging. We love to see our students progress seamlessly through the IYT syllabus from a novice IYT International Yacht Crew candidate to a confident and experienced IYT Yachtmaster.

We are delight to announce a new boat to our fleet. But its not a normal plastic boat. Its a classic Motorsailor that will be doing international crew courses>> and sailing expeditions in the Algarve>>.

She is a Nauticat 33.This traditional motorsailer symbolize a remarkable consistency of engineering vision and determination. This boat is unique, in terms of volume inside, easy handling, durability, safety standards, modern cruising capabilities. She is a ketch, as truly classics should be.

The long keel makes the maneuver different compare to the new sailing vessels. Its a challenge to go astern with this boat.

This boat is available to run private courses and expeditions.

Please welcome Xunguila to the fleet.

Non-marking shoes Please

Most black soled shoes/sandals/sneakers or “hard sole” shoes leave marks on the deck. The majority of sneakers that are not designed for indoor courts have carbon in the sole and will mark the deck.

Obviously boat shoes should be fine and sneakers designed for indoor courts (tennis, basketball, etc) are designed not to mark the floors so in turn sould be non-marking on the boat decks.
