International Yacht Crew / Competent Crew

International Yacht Crew course is a certificate of excellence for those candidates who wish to train to become an active crew member on a sailing yacht.

IYT International Crew course suitable for anyone learning to sail whether they have sailed before or absolute beginner. You can take this course over 5 days or weekends.

Experience living on board and really get to know the boat.

You can enroll our Sailing Expedition to the Guadiana River>> and take your International Crew certificate. Contact us for this option.

Certificate Limitations

Crew on a vessel up to a maximum length of 78 ft /24 meters in coastal waters up to 20 miles offshore in daylight hours and in fair conditions with moderate wind and sea conditions.

It is the level of competence that someone needs either when acting as watchkeeping crew on a yacht and as a skipper of a small yacht in protected waters where help is immediately available in calm conditions.

Day 0: Check in Olhão

Check in after 17:00. Safety briefing and information about the course. Dinner ashore.


Day 1: Ria Formosa Nature Reserve

Sail in the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve and get familiar with the sailing ground and the boat. Anchor in Culatra island and lunch aboard. In the afternoon there will be time to practice boat handling under motor and sail.


Day 2: Passage

Passage to Vilamoura or Vila Real de Santo António, according to the weather.


Day 3 & 4: Passage

Passage according to the weather forecast. Stop for lunch in front of a Desert Island. Time to swim and enjoy the blue waters of this Nature Reserve.


Day 5: Back to Olhão

Sail back to Olhão. Clean the boat, debriefings and check out.
